The inscription of Gun’s lamp stand reflects the political intention. “Happiness is a hot gun”, can be read here. Not to mention the inside of the lampshade, on which printed crosses underpin this statement. The lamp base of the Lounge Gun Chrome forms the shape of a vertically upstanding M16 rifle on the lamp stand, which is used among other things by the US armed forces. In addition to the M16 rifle, Philippe Starck uses the silhouette of the Russian automatic rifle and machine gun Klaschnikow AK 47 for the Table Gun table lamp, and the Beretta handgun for the Bedside Gun table lamp for his social criticism.

For the Lounge Gun Chrome floor lamp by Philippe Starck for Flos, the head of the lamp consists of a conical lampshade that provides direct light. In a simple and elegant way, the light source is concealed to the side. At the same time the light radiates upwards and downwards and immerses the direct environment in a harmonious play of light and shadow. The interior of the lampshade, held in white (for the Lounge Gun Chrome) or gold (for the Lounge Gun Gold), reflects the light before it exits.

The lampshade is made of plasticized paper, while the lamp base is made of aluminum by die casting and then galvanically gold plated (Lounge Gun Gold) or chrome (Lounge Gun Chrome). The cable is equipped with an electronic dimmer, which makes the lights of the Guns collection gradually dimmable.

The Lounge Gun Chrome is equipped with state-of-the-art light sources: 21 watt LED and a light temperature of 3.000 Kelvin (warm white). A round base gives the Lounge Gun Chrome floor lamp by Flos a secure footing. Here is also the cable connection, which supplies the Lounge Gun Chrome with energy. Whether reading light, mood light or noble and expressive accent in the living room, bedroom, bar or lobby – the Lounge Gun Chrome floor lamp by Italian lighting manufacturer Flos can be used flexibly anywhere. Finished with chrome – as here – or alternatively plated with 18-carat gold, the Lounge Gun lamp by Flos wants to stand out.

Flos claims to donate 20 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the Guns lighting collection to the non-profit organization “Frères de Hommes Europe”, which provides humanitarian aid in crisis areas, mainly in Asia, Africa and Latin America. The lights of the Guns collection are political statements and art that denounce both war and arms trafficking and the associated predatory greed. As such, the Gun light is permanently exhibited in the museum of contemporary art “Centre George Pompidou” in Paris.

Lounge Gun Chrome by Philippe Starck for the Italian lighting manufacturer Flos is more than just a floor lamp. The floor lamp Lounge Gun Chrome is rather an art object and a political statement at the same time. Philippe Starck says: “I wanted to create objects that remind us that our wealth is based on the death of others.”
